Spouses & Couples

Claim Your Inner Power

Background:

After over a decade, interacting with Special Operators, both Active Duty and Veterans, professionally and personally, one inequity became starkly clear, what about the wife? As providers we always tell service members that they can’t put on their families’ oxygen masks before they put on their own. This implies that it is on them to fix the family. While internal growth and partnership is important for the warfighter, what about the internal growth and the resources for the spouse?

Applications of mindfulness for self regulation and improved communication are applied including concepts for assertive communication for the tough topics in the homelife with warrior transition.

Education on brain injury and post traumatic stress strategies for the homelife also available.

Couples Kitbag

This 8-session virtual program for military couples brings together evidence based couples therapy techniques with proven mindfulness practices to increase the connection and resilience of each partnership. Couples will learn and practice new skills in session and between  session. The end product is a kitbag of approaches that can enhance communication and strengthen the couples’ bond, even over long distances and through the challenges of the deployment cycle. The program is cofacilitated by Dr. Vaughan and therapist Madeline Vann, LPC, CSAC (licensed in Virginia).
